eGarage just did a feature on the all new 790RS from HRE. According to my sources, the entire line up has not been finalized yet. However, they have been working tireless to bring something fresh to the wheel market and being the leader that they are in design and quality, I am quite confident that they will surprise us when they officially release real soon.

Tentatively, here is the 790RS line up:
792RS – twisted 5 spoke
793RS – Multi Spoke
794RS – V–5, 5 spoke variant
797RS – Split 5

Vehicle Fitments should include:
Sports Cars – Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW
Sedans – Mid-Size Sedans, Large Sedans (7-series, S-Class, Maserati)

Sizes - 19″ – 22″

When I saw the potential line up, I was surprised as many of you might have been with the lack of "HRE Mesh" design. But, in a very good way. The release of P90L for the ultra luxury cars this year stirred up some mixed reactions amongst the HRE fans and haters alike. The questions that kept popping up in my mind was; "Is this the HRE that I know?". HRE is no longer the same Mesh wheel company that i was accustomed to. HRE is truly innovating and pushing the envelope in the design segment and if you have seen some of the videos of late, they certainly have been pushing harder to make the highest quality wheels by investing in newer and better technologies and personnel to truly become and "all-in-house" wheel company.

I, personally love the new direction that HRE is heading and certainly anxious to see the entire new line up of 790RS.

Very often, customers will call in and ask for a whole array of parts to be bought for their cars. All the individual parts look great and will probably look great on the car as well, if isolated to that one portion of the car. But, putting multiple parts is tricky. You really need a vision for how you'd like your car to look and make sure that you have a harmonic symbiosis of parts. How will they come together? How will the lines and colors interact with each other?

Mike came to us with a shopping list of parts. Started small with a front lip, and couple of aesthetic pieces. Very quickly that list snowballed into a full build with suspension, wheels, aero and performance products. Mike trusted us to make sure that we fully comprehend the styling and performance that he was going for. We absorbed and gave our feedback. We took a few parts of the list or swapped them and played with the color scheme until he was happy with what he thought he was getting. Now, it was our job to make that vision a reality of physical form, fully equipped with the right components that will deliver to its fullest potential on every sensory nerve possible; vision, smell, touch, sound and the mystical one close to heart.

This is what we delivered.

We picked up the car from Michigan and transported it to our location in Illinois. I applaud him for taking that leap of faith and thank him for the support that he has shown. The E92 M3 came pretty stock with just carbon grilles and Eisenmann RACE with Challenge x pipe. We got right to work and started with some custom painted front grilles in matching alpine white, and the side grilles and the inside of the mirror caps were painted in MAG Blue to match the strikingly aggressive MAG Blue 18" TE37 wrapped with Hankook Ventus RS-3. For that perfect stance, KW V3 was deployed.

For down force and styling, Challenge "V" weave front lip, mirror caps and a Voltex Type 1S wing was used. Since a custom base for the Voltex Type 1S wing would have taken too long, we modified a base plate for the EVO to line up with the lines of the E92 trunk.

Kreis-Sieg exhaust was installed with their x-pipe and remote key for opening and closing that valve. With valve fully open you'd scare some old lady to a hear attack on the freeway. Freeway and the track is where this car belongs. Enjoy and thank you Mike!

3D Design North America builds the Perfect Z4

News of Japan’s disaster reached nearly every human in a first world country within a day. The footage was horrifying to watch and the toll on human life and property was terrible, but even as Japan went through it’s dark moments that week there was positive mixed with the negative, hope mixed with the despair of a country living through a disaster of epic proportions. Days and weeks after the Tsunami, two facts became very clear about the people of Japan- they would not give up easily, and they would do anything possible to restore the country as quickly as possible and return to normal life.

Speaking to my friends in Japan about those events, I heard one common theme: “let’s not dwell on the bad, but plan for the good. Let’s move forward, rebuild, and enjoy life”. The tuning companies of Japan seemed to express the same feelings and continue to push forward every day. 3D Deisgn’s newest E89 Z4 is a reflection of this positive philosophy. Plans to create the car were made shortly after the Japanese Tsunami with the intention of making a statement. That statement is simply scribed over the car’s driver’s side window: “Don’t give up, Tohoku”.

3D Design partnered with key players in the US and Germany to create their new car, with each company contributing to the car’s unique style. WSTO and IND worked together to design the car’s overall theme and carefully measure the car’s aggressive wheel fitment. BBS brought their amazing Motorsport wheels to the table directly from BMW’s M3 GT4 program in an 18x9.5 +25 size in the front and 18x10 +30 size in the rear. Yokohama supplied the 235/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear S Drive tires. KW helped with their Variant 3 suspension for a comfortable ride on the street and great handling when the roads begin to wind, while Dinan helped provide a camber plate that gave us that extra secret ingredient to make the BBS wheels fit perfectly. Eisenmann’s technicians hand-built the car’s exhaust system for a sound that matches it’s aggressive exterior, and of course 3D Design’s own aerodynamics package in full carbon fiber works perfectly with the car’s already perfect lines. The car will soon receive a brake upgrade from Brembo, a gauge package from Stack, and an upgraded turbo kit from ESS Tuning.

We love working with builds big and small. When it comes to creating that unique car that our customers are looking for, the choice in products and priorities are as diverse as the personalities behind the car. This is probably the biggest reason why we love interacting with our customers on choice of products and modifications. We truly believe that it is our responsibility to lead our customers in the "right" direction when it comes to aftermarket parts for modifications. Their satisfaction is crucial to our success and a long lived satisfaction will be one that will determine our success. This is especially true with our client, Evan Lee.

Like all relationships, they start small. Our relationship with Evan started when he was fed up of dealing with bent replica rims on his 335i. As we soo found out, replica rims were not the whole story. Replica diffuser, front lip and tips had cost him more than $1500 on install, which did not end up looking like they were supposed to. He was hoping that we would fix the situation. Instead of fixing the situation, we decided to start from a clean slate. We carefully steered him into making the leap into a set of genuine BBS LM-R and KW V3. That was all he needed for the perfect stance and look on his 335i. This was the beginning of a great relationship, involving more cars and even more wheels and performance parts.

This is his joy and our pride

For the right outcome, the perfect recipe and execution is key. Ingredients like a full carbon fiber front lip and rear diffuser by 3D Design was the starting point. For added down force and styling, the BMW Performance carbon fiber trunk lip spoiler was used. A little dose of gloss black front and side grilles really transformed the fascia.

Nothing would be complete without the right stance. Having previously had a set of 20" Volk VR. G2 for that urban look, Evan really wanted to take the performance approach. What better way than with a set of super light weight Volk TE37SL in 18 - 9.5 front and 18 - 10.5 rear with sticky Bridgestone tires. KW V3 took on the task of making sure all four corners stayed planted at all times.

To improve the performance, drop in filter and the Bastuck RACE exhaust was put in. Sound, Looks and Feel. Sensory overload!

The Yokohama/ADVAN TC-III is a racing wheel specifically built for the fellow track enthusiast to the hardcore racer. The main objective was to create an extremely light weight racing wheel without sacrificing strength with the use of S-Tires, or racing slicks on the circuit. It was developed to clear up to 390mm Porsche 997 GT3RS or (BBK) Big brake kits, and it supplies ample clearance for larger calipers with the beautiful, and aggressive concave spokes Yokohama/ADVAN has mastered over the years.

We see lots of nice wheels come through out doors and we also see our share of the not-so-nice wheels.

2011 X5 on 19 - 9.0 TSW Nurburgring RF with Dunlop Grand Trek WT

The market definitely lacks a good winter tire/wheel combo for the X5 and X6. This is especially true for the cars with the optional 20" Sport Fender Flares. Also, most 19" wheels tend to have a load rating that is way too low for the X5 and X6 Chassis.

I looked real hard trying to fill this gap and the wheel that became our choice for winter set up was the TSW Nurburgring RF. Unlike most other models, these wheels come in 19 - 9.0 et20, which is a perfect look for the X5 and X6 and also works really well with 255/50-19 winter tires that are available in abundance on the market. Our favorite tire is the Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme.

By the way, the BMW caps work on them!

We here at WheelSTO aren't strangers to fitment, and pushing the bar.

Jason L. came to us for the perfect fitment that he had in mind. Since he was not going to track the car, he has the exact vision of how he wanted his car to sit. The wheels are custom 5x112 Yokohama/ADVAN Racing RS in 19 x 9 +29 Front, and 19 x 9 +22 Rear in Hyper Black finish. We recommended the Falken FK452's in 215/35/19 and they are known for the rounded Japanese style sidewall so you can gain every mm of clearance of you can get. He wanted to low ride height on KW Variant 1 coilovers with the perfect amount of flush fitment in the front to avoid any rubbing or the possible mangling of the front plastic liner, or the front metal fender itself! The rear has the perfect amount of poke, not too little... not too much. Since the inner liner of the newer generation Audi's can be a pain, he will be rolling the fenders more, and removing the rear liner to run a slightly wider tire without sacrificing the look of stretch tire to show off the dual flanged lip, and sickly concave spokes of the ADVAN Racing RS. Please be aware that Jason lives in downtown Chicago, and he is constantly scraping the under chassis and occasionally sparking along the road. You gotta love daily drivers that are slammed on just coilovers and especially newer cars like this one! But looks aren't the only thing Jason L. wanted...

The car is also equipped with K&N Intake kit, Eurocode Intercooler Pipe, Eurocode HFC, and a Eisenmann Quad Exhaust with a Bastuck rear quad rear valence. Everything is finely tuned with a APR Stage II flashed ecu. The exterior also has the OSIR Front Grill with Blacked out Trim/Rear Emblem holder and the OSIR Rear Deck lid, the windows have been tinted 35% all around for the mysterious profile with a cleared front bra, tinted front and rear tail lights.

New Product: Forgeline GA3R

Being in the business, I get to see and experience lots of great wheels. Lots of companies come and go as they try to compete at the highest levels. Many fail to innovate while others simply try to consume a piece of the market share with products that do not stand out or have distinguishing factors. It is certainly hard to stand out and even harder to be innovative.

Innovation is not a by product of hard thinking but a result of years of experience on and off the field. In case of wheels, both in motorsports and in the manufacturing arenas. There are lots of wheel companies but only a few that remain to be strong in both fields. Forgeline is one of them.

Forgeline has been building quality wheels for over 15 years. They immerse themselves in every facet of racing, from Grand-Am, ALMS, SCCA Pro as well as virtually every amateur series in the US.

The ZX3R is one of the most well known wheels from Forgeline. Titanium bolts in combination with military-spec lightweight jet nuts are used to redue weight in the most critical areas; the perimeter of the wheels. centers are machined for extra weight removal as well as ease of lug nut removal for quick wheel change on the race tracks.

The same principles are the basis for this new wheel from Forgeline. The GA3R. I think that this is by far the most beautiful wheel from the competition line.

Our new "I-Beamed Spoke" technology reduces weight and applies additional strength in rigidity within the spokes of the wheel. The hidden titanium assembly hardware not only gives it a smooth clean look, but also functions to ease the efforts of cleaning the wheel. In addition, the GA3R features an enlarged open center area for quick and easy lug nut removal, critical for quick pit stops. Another feature of the GA3R is the design of the center allows plenty of room for caliper clearance for that extreme brake fitment. German Power house in the height of Japanese Fashion

What is the traditional way of tuning a newer BMW M3? Trick question. There is no right way to do it...

This brings us to our feature car, a pristine Alpine White E92 M3 Coupe with heavy Japanese influence.

One of our local customers came to us for some advice for his E92 M3 on exterior styling, and modifications without going overboard. The customer did not want to do anything to stray it away from the factory designed sharp curves and distinct lines. First off, he wanted a good wheel and tire combination for the street since he drives it all around downtown Chicago, and to the suburbs often. To improve the look of the car, the car was equipped with the Eibach Pro-Kit, to give it a nice drop while keeping the EDC system intact. Now, one of the most important pieces to complete the car was the wheels. The customer opted for the RAYS ENGINEERING Volk Racing VR.G2 in 20x9/20x11 in Gloss Black with Vredestein Ultrac Sessantra 245/30/20 and 295/25/20 to complete the idea of his perfect street car set up.

The RAYS ENGINEERING Volk Racing VR.G2 was chosen among the many aftermarket wheels available for the M3, due to its simple, yet classic design and 10,000 ton forged construction, and they are also the choice wheels for the ALMS Factory BMW race cars.

Among the vast choices of tires out in the market, the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantra was chosen for the aggressive tread design by the famous automotive designer, Giugiaro. Vredestein is based Netherlands, and they are no stranger to designing the perfect street tire with optimum dry traction, as well as great wet traction capabilities at a fair price!

It doesn't stop there, once the car had the wheels installed with a good daily driver stance. The engine, and exterior needed the same type of treatment. Our customer also followed Studie Japan's styling on their BMW Motor cars and wanted to do the same thing to his own personal car. The next step was pretty simple.

3D Design Aerodynamic parts.

We imported a 3D Design Carbon Fiber Lip, 3D Design Carbon Fiber Diffuser. The quality, and fitment on these pieces are unreal. It is melody of carbon fiber masterpieces. The customer also installed a Challenge USA GT Carbon trunk with the integrated trunk spoiler that also serves great functionality and looks - Weight savings of 19lbs over stock

You also can't forget the small details as well. Custom painted gloss black front kidney grills, side grills, painted reflectors and LED turn signals that give the car great detail, but very hard to notice if you weren't a BMW fanatic...

No matter what anyone says. The S65B40 M3 engine & exhaust note should not be contained to the stock exhaust system. Since the customer's car was meant for daily driver duties, he chose a BASTUCK Co. GmbH Clubsport exhaust with (x4) 85mm double wall tips for an aggressive sound without any exhaust drones at higher RPM's, and you can see how the 3D Design Carbon Fiber Diffuser accents the aggressive tips.

The Sixth Element by Lamboghini

With the radical designs and signature styling of Lmaborghini, I have always thought; " How are they going to top that?" Well, I am in shock again, as they unveiled the Sesto Elemento Concept at the 2010 Paris Motor show.

If there's one thing that caught our attention about the Sesto Elemento, it's the weight. Lamborghini was able keep its curb weight to 999 kg, or 2,202 lbs, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastics. The entire car is essentially constructed from the lightweight materials including the monocoque, front frame, body panels, major suspension components and wheels. With a 570-horsepower V10 mounted behind the cockpit, the San Elemento has just 3.86 pounds to push for every horsepower. Lamborghini claims a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of over 300 km/hr, or 186 mph. (source: autoblog)

This car is visually stunning at every angle (and it has a lot of angles). the use of Carbon fiber is very extensive but what is more impressive is the new Forged Composite that they co developed with Callaway (yes, the golf equipment manufacturer~!)

Their continual quest to lose weight has led them to extensive reseach in the areas of composites like carbon Fiber. This has led to their alliance with Callaway in developing this new matter (hence sixth element!?) called Forged Composite.

The result is called Forged Composite. Whereas conventional carbon fiber is layered down in sheets and bonded together, Forged Composite comes mixed together in a paste of fibers and epoxy that can be squeezed into any shape desired. The application makes it far easier to form complex shapes, and since the fibers come out oriented randomly, the resulting form is apparently stronger in every which direction, instead of fixed ones like in conventional layered sheet carbon.

The Alloy Technic Mesh is the second set of wheels that we have supplied to Leemik and by far the best looking one. The first was a set of Advan RS-D in black machining finish. The Alloy Tchnic mesh barely weighs 20lbs even in its 20" trim and being built specifically for the M3, I can only say that this is one of the nicest wheels on the M3. The feather light wheels aren't too bad for performance either!

The rear shot really shows off the Ericsson trunk and bumper and of course the beautiful titanium exhaust system by none other than Ericsson. What you don't see, unless you go up close is the amazing blue torched Titanium tips.

Makots, is one of our oldest customer and a loyal customer of ours, since he had his E92 M3. When he bought the R35 GT-R, we really wanted to do something special, One of a Kind wheel for the GTR. We went through so many different offerings and sizing options. At the end, he decided on the Volk VR G2. Not any G2 but a G2 in the very exclusive Mag Blue color.

He comissioned the extpertise of Kaizen tuning for all the performance aspects of the car and boy, what a great job, they did! We are just honored and proud to be a part of this beautiful car.

From Good to Amazing

I love the new E89 Z4. The fast retracting Hardtop did not take away from the lines at all as they did on the E93 3Series. The long sweeping lines of the front end are in perfect unison with 2 seater cockpit and a beautiful rear end.

Here is a fine specimen of a Z4 moded to look stunning and perform like one.

impreza7854; a member on zpost did a great job adding that subtle touch that made the car look amazing.
As a fan of BBS wheels, I thought... "nice". Alpine white, BBS LM-R in 19" with some BMW Performance brakes, retrofitted. This is a nice car. Well, I had no idea what was in store as this car went through a total transformation that you would keep my mouth ajar and drooling for days.

This is what i am Talking about. A full Hamann treatmetn with 20" GT30 wheels in Formula silver by Rays Engineering. I am just gonna let the pictures speak for themselves.

The last picture is my favorite with 4 aggressive tips and the vented rear bumper just adds a totally new dimension to the car.

Great job; impreza7854. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for this car. It would be hard to top this one!

The journey of the WIDE fitted E90 LCI.

On The Road From South Dakota.

Our good customer, Paul was on a long road trip that involved hundreds of miles of driving. We were obviously surprised as well as excited that he was considering stopping by in Chicago. The journey started as he was driving to Maryland to North Dakota. He came to stop by AMS Performance in West Chicago, IL and the final stop at our shop in Northbrook, IL. A 1,500 mile one way trip, and it was quite a journey!

Let's take some time to talk about some of the details on Paul's E90 335i LCI, and some photos of the visually stimulating wheel fitment.

This particular car has lots for us to be proud of. It was the first set of Modulare M14 with hidden hardware and as set that we built with specifications close to that of an M3 on an E90 LCI that only allows for a very conservative fitment/offset... Paul came to us with a request for and "off the shelf" wheel fitment and after a couple of messages and phone calls, conservative went out the window.

Modulare M14 in 19 - 9.0 / 10.0 withwith TC Kline's True Match Coilovers and Vorshlag camber plates. Thanks to MA-Motorsports for the perfect job of rolling the fenders without any issues.

Paul's car looks good but it also packs an iron fisted punch. The motor is kept fairly simple with modifications with the most power gains. It has an AMS Performance front mount inter cooler, along with AR Design downpipes, and a AMS performance 2.5” to 3” y-pipe V-band cat back exhuaust with minimal mandrel bends which maximizes exhaust flow. It also uses the EAS Dual Cone filter intake kit, and everything is fine tuned using the Procede V4 software. Everything is about balance, the car performs as hard as it looks sitting still.

One of my favorite shots. It's not too common to see this type of aggressive fitment on newer BMW's. But over time the BMW community tries different approaches to style their cars and helps promote individuality, and the bar will kept being reset over and over again...

The mean stance. You can some of the details on the exterior, Paul decided to go with a Karbonwerke carbon trunk. It helps accent the lines of the E90 sedan, with a simple yet aggressive spoiler built into the trunk and making the actual trunk itself as light as a feather!

WHEELSTO visits STUDIE AG/Base! in Yokohama, Japan

This was it...

The final stop before Johan@WSTO jumped on the plane back to the states.

We saved the best for last, and it was worth it. We finally ended our trip at the head quarter of Studie AG in Yokohama, Japan. The home of it all. Studie AG has 5 shops all over Japan including Tokyo, Sendai, Kobe and Kidnie. The owner of Studie AG, Bob Suzuki waited to meet up with Johan. It was a short meeting but very memorable. He gave him a few gifts including a Studie AG +Das Foto- photo book, and some cool goodies as well, anyways let's tour the shop!

As we arrived to the Studie/Base!

The outside of the shop, relocated below the Yokohama train rails. The architecture of the shop is very simple, and clean. But inside it holds some of the most phenomenal BMW motor cars in Japan and all over the world. There is shop in the world like it. Some people will never understand why Studie paints their cars in wacky colors, and has anime inspired vinyl schemes but you have to understand that no one would ever think about doing those things to a full competition Super GT race car. Not only are they a tuning shop, but what sets them apart from the rest is that they know how to combine culture with motor sports in a wild, artistic and a well executed manner. Nothing like it!

Willkommen to Studie/Base! BMW Parking only!

Outside the shop, without even stepping inside. You can see how enthusiastic the guys at Studie AG are. Collections of toys, and scale models, enthusiasts coming straight from the heart.

The Studie "Logo" designed from Bob's personal friend who is an artist. Around the shop, you can see all the artwork displayed everywhere.

A sticker wall dedicated to all the tuner shops, and companies that work with Studie is proudly displayed at the entrance.

3D Design. Studie AG is Japan's biggest 3D Design dealer.

As you walk in, you can see the huge collection and display of AC Schnitzer wheels and products. Studie AG is Japan's biggest dealer of AC Schnitzer products and is the home to AC Schnitzer Japan.

Yokohama's home brand, Yokohama/ADVAN display with ADVAN Racing, and AVS racing wheels and ADVAN tires.

Like any showroom, they have a variety of historic photos of their history, racing victories, and literature for anyone to enjoy.

The legendary BMW M12 /7 motor. Derived, and built for Formula 1 using engine blue prints from the 60's it uses a 16v head with a slide throttle fuel injection (Bosch/Kugelfischer) , titanium connecting rods, dry-sump oil system. Studie AG proudly displays this rare, and unobtainable piece of racing history, right in their show room.

The famous Warsteiner E30 M3 DTM race car. Built for pure racing sports, with race prepped S14 motor. The engine was swapped out for a Sony Playstation 3, with a Gran Turismo driving simulator.

BBS, Volk Racing, and 3D Design Brombacher wheels are proudly displayed in the showroom. You will never see a replica wheel here!

Studie AG carries so many accessories. I am talking everything from keyfobs, PIAA/Belloff lighting, the original "Golfball" shift knob, and everything you can imagine for your BMW. Even with the intent of not purchasing anything, its very hard to walk out of this place without buying something.

Studie AG highly recommend Okada Projects. Plasma Direct, a Japanese brand that specializes in high quality ignition and spark systems for most popular tuner cars.

ARQRAY displays some of their quality units. They specialize in high quality, JASMA legal exhaust systems for exotic, and import cars. You can see the quality welds, and finish on these units from just looking at the pictures.

As mentioned before, some of the artwork of Bob Suzuki's personal friend.

They have even managed to catch Spider man himself! and a random surf board on display. It's quite a different perspective of a "tuner" shop isn't it?

As we step into their work shop, and garage bay. You can see how the atmosphere changes from a showroom, to a serious, racing and tuning shop.

Even during the late hours, there are many customers who are willing to stay late to have their cars worked and serviced on.

G-SWAT, one of the most famous alignment specialists in Japan.

Studie AG uses their equipment to precisely align their customer, and racing cars. The customers can also see how their cars are aligned and worked on without any issues. Unlike many shops in the US, where you patiently wait a room with old magazines, most Japanese tuner shops have display windows so you can see what is going on behind those closed doors. "Piece of mind"

NEW HRE CENTERLOCK WHEELS FOR PORSCHE

When Porsche decided to introduce centerlock wheels for the street, that was a great move, I thought. It gave the GT3, the look and performance that really set them apart from the rest.
What it did to the aftermarket community was totally different. Not too many manufacturers had even thought of making centerlock wheels let alone make one that will come close to the look as well as match the peformance of the stock wheels.
I really thought that it would take a long time before someone would come out with wheels for the GT3.

It really didn't take HRE too long before they came out with these beautiful creations.

Competition Series C90-C and C93-C

Competition Series C90-C and C93-C three piece centerlock wheels are available in 18″ and 19" diameters with OE widths and offsets, or HRE can supply custom widths and offset for modified fenders or race-prepared cars. The volk VR G2 has been a greart success amongst the European car customers, especially with BMW customers. I think that this is especially due to the ALMS GT2 M3 that rocks the RAYS G2 centerlock wheels.

The high strength to weight ratio and killer looks have turned many weekend racers as well as famed BMW tuners and race teams to put them on.

Here is a fine specimen by Turner Motorsport, rocking 18 - 10.5 all around with some 275/35-18 Continental Tires.

The 10.5 front's certainly don't look out of place. With many track customer worried about not having enough grip in the front... you won't have to worry any more.

Interpretation of the new F10 by 3D Design

The new 5 series (F10) is already the sensation as the newest and baddest "sporty" sedan.
Many tuners like Hamann has already released their interpretation of the new F10 and I am sure that there are many more to come.

I believe that 3D Design has really taken styling to a whole new level with the F10. Keeping the lines clean and not diverting too much from the original lines of the F10. This is also the first time that they have released a roof spoiler and boy, have they done a great job.

Type III Forged is a new wheel that is hot off the press by 3D Design.

The Type III Forged is an 8000ton Die Forged wheel made by the powerhouse of Forged wheels; Taneisya.
The Type III starts is life as a sold disc of high-grade aluminum alloy. This single billet alloy is pressed under 8000 tons of pressure to increase material density and tensile strength as the billet is shaped into a wheels. This very highly technical process makes the metal much stronger and therefore, allows the wheels to be made thineer and lighter without sacrificing strength.

The Type III in 20 - 10.0J weighs a mere 22lbs.

WSTO x EUROWERKZ - R3DBULL Project

As soon as Chad from Eurowerkz, told us his E90 was ready for a photo shoot and found the perfect place to shoot. Johan from WSTO, literally just stopped what he was doing, and got ready to leave for a solo drive to Minneapolis.

The journey starts late afternoon at WSTO, Johan packs up a few sparse items, camera equipment and departs as soon as possible. The drive up was quite hellish, the 7 hour drive from Chicago to Minneapolis isn't too bad, but when you throw in big thunder storms and tornado sirens in the mix. It can be quite the pain.

As soon as Johan arrived at around midnight, He met up with Chad and Derek from Eurowerkz at Auto MotorPlex - An enthusiast's dream. A private garage built to your own specifications, for storage, and car work. The environment is set up to feel like you and your car was meant to be there. Even a lounge, and a club house for residents as well. Very cool!

He was amazed by how the place looked like even thought he was so tired and just wanted go to sleep. But he knew he couldn't rest just yet, decided to do a night shoot at the Auto MotorPlex facility.

Chad's Crimson Red 330i. The Crimson Red paint comes alive in the dim lighting. A great example of good execution with burning silver Work VS-XX in E46 M3 sizing that really sets it off. It would make a Matador look twice!

Derek's Interlagos Blue Z4 M. Another great example of a Z4 M with Avant Garde M310's in Hyper Silver.

With the combination of brilliant BMW OE colors, and aggressive sized wheels and stance. These cars definitely show individuality, and gives it a very serious look.

The next day, Johan met up with the Eurowerkz guys again and went to Auto MotorPlex and did a more in depth photoshoot. Johan got some sweet shots of 330i and the Z4M en route...

This time he met the owner of the place and showed other units that were filled with all the collections and passions of all the enthusiastic condo owners. Truly an amazing experience, as you can see the photos.

DREAM GARAGE.

In a sea of European exotics, the cult American muscle cars, the BMW's are surely a sight to see and no enthusiast garage is fully complete without a Gulf Racing logo.

Moving on, Johan set up a photo shoot next to a classic car garage, with a giant BMW logo on the wall, which fits the theme nicely.

The Work VS-XX in this shot shows off the extensive mesh detail, and the tucked look on Chad's 330i.

The Z4M in these shots are very fitting, the fender wells are larger than regular Z4 cars. It reminds me of a bull-like stance ready to charge.

A few BMW Isetta's in fully restored trim. Very cool cars, and tiny!

Japan Tuner Spotlight: WSTO Visits STUDIE TOKYO

WSTO visits Studie Tokyo!

I had never been as excited as I was about visiting tuner shops as I was when visiting Studie. The excitement of visiting Tokyo Auto Salon had left me in daze that I had still not awaken from when I went to visit Studie. Studie has five locations; Yokohama, Tokyo, Kobe, Sendai and Kidnie. I had the honor of visiting 2 of those fine establishments, Tokyo (their latest which opened last year) and the main hub, Studie Yokohama.

Studie Tokyo did not look at all like a tuning shop. In fact, it really had the aura and the feel of an automobile museum. Upon entering, the display of miniature versions of BMW Motorsport’s finest from the past and present enables guests to submerge in the history of BMW at a single glance.

Just past the entry way, you will find 2 cars on display. The famous Super GT series Studie GLAD R@cing widebody Z4 and another icon from the past, the 1998 Super Touring Car Series champion Fina BMW E36 320, driven by Johnny Cecotto for BMW Motorsport Team Schnitzer.

The Z4 caught my attention right away, with the widebody BMW motorsport shell wrapped in the bright livery of Japanese Anime. This Z4 is an active duty race car and although I was not able to inspect it closer, the Stack instruments, full roll cage, huge “GT” wings, CF diffuser and hood (built by VRS) and BBS center-lock wheels was enough to let me know that this was one serious machine.

The Fina E36 320 may not share the exciting livery and persona of the Z4, but all BMW enthusiasts will know that this is that one car that brought BMW Motorsport back into the world of Motorsport Racing and BMW’s decision to come back to F1 in the late 90’s.

The most amazing thing about this car is that it is not a mere replica but the true shell of the actual car that made it impact in Nurburgring, in 1998.

Although, it has retired from racing duties, Studie has resurrected the spirit of racing by transforming it into an actual “Gran Turismo” Game console. Yes, this car is a game console! Patrons of Studie are able to strap into the racing bucket seats and drive the car in simulation. The illusion of reality and all motory senses are amplified when you turn the ignition of the game “on” and realize that the windshield is a special projector screen. Wow... my mouth was ajar.

For Studie, this was not merely a scheme to attract customers, but a solution for them to share their passion for BMW and motorsport with customers. This passion and vision is evident throughout every corner of the shop and in all the individuals that work at Studie.

As in any place I have gone to in Japan, I was greeted invitingly and cordially by the receptionist. The white color scheme and the bright colors of the shop are modern and very inviting. Clients of Studie are able to walk right up to the meet the Studie team and discuss matters of modification, maintenance and receive consultation from any one of the members of the Studie team. The process reflects Stuide’s motto “TDMM” which is an acronym for Tuning, Dress up, Maintenance, and Motorsports. Studie’s goal is to provide the very best service by sharing the mutual passion for BMW in order to meet the need of its clients.

I shook hands with Studie Tokyo’s manager, Aizawa-san Although, we did not speak the same language, mutual respect and knowledge about each other’s shops as well as the shared passion for BMW really allowed us quickly get acquainted and share many ideas and views on BMW tuning.

On the walls of Studie Tokyo, you will find pictures and pieces of art (valve covers) that are symbolic of BMW. The shop is filled with the latest parts and accessories from corner to corner. Well known brands like BBS, KW, Bilstein, Arqray, ARC, Hamann, ACSchnitzer to name a few were easily accessible to customers to feel and inspect.

We have all seen BBS wheels and as a dealer for BBS in the US, we have seen our share of them, but to have a wall of 9 BBS’s finest specimens was simply amazing. Not to mention that you can’t get 4 of them stateside, the RE-V, RE Mg, RE-Y and the special edition gloss black face RG-R.

It was time to walk out of the shop and inspect Studie’s many project cars and customer’s cars that they have built. The first car that caught my eye as we walked out into the parking lot was this green widebody Z4. This car belongs to the owner of Studie, “Bob” and is nicknamed “kero kero” (famous japanese frog). The black BBS RE-Mg as well as the highly sort after “Golf” ball shift knob really tells me how serious that are about the cars that they build.

The next car that caught my attention was the E82 135i with BMW Performance body. Although, you can’t tell from the seemingly stock exterior looks, this is a fully custom built car, ready for the tracks of Fuji Speedway.

The interior is full custom “Red” leather and suede on BMW performance seats, and steering wheel. Performance is boosted with a healthy dose of power from Active Autowere ECU upgrade, intercooler and blow off valve with the HKS oil cooler to help keep things in check.

The exterior is all BMW performance with custom lighting by Bellof and Hella. Chassis stiffening is by ARC and special body dampers developed by Studie and Yamaha. Although, it is currently wearing E46 Competition wheels, this car the cover model for the Advan RZ for BMW wheels.

Of course there were many other customer cars. Perhaps too many for me to list and talk about. I did make sure to do a more than my share of scrutinizing the mods on these cars, such as this very clean specimen of E60 M5 with AVS F7 wheels and the full AC Schnitzer E46 M3.

Past the parking lot, I was led to where all the work is done. Against the backdrop of Studie’s slogan “We were born 2 run”, Studie Tokyo’s pit was much like their shop; clean and well organized and simply impressive. Parts and tools were well organized and catalogued.

Two cars were up on the lifts when I visited Studie Tokyo; Black AC Schnitzer Z4 and the widebody E92 M3. I recognized, the pink widebody M3, right away. The M3 was fully built with Schubert Motorsport’s wide body with BBS FI wheels. At this point, I had only heard and seen the BBS FI wheels through the internet. The sight of seeing them totally left me in awe. And to do them in a custom “pink” paint job, was an even bigger shocker. Too many times, have I seen a widebody with generic wheels that did not match up well. With the help of KW coilovers, the stance and fitment of the wheels was close to perfect.

The amount of customization and effort that has gone to this car is simply unearthly. Arqray has developed a unique, one-of-a-kind exhaust system so that they can use the fully functional diffuser for increased downforce.

The perfect marriage of BBS FI and Brembo Racing brakes

This pink M3 belongs to Aizawa-san (manager of Studie Tokyo). He drives it on a regular basis, taking it to the tracks whenever he can, where it is most happy. Regular roads in Tokyo may allow it, but I am not too sure the car will survive the roads of Chicago.

AC Schnitzer Japan

Another unique thing about Studie Tokyo is the fact that they share the building as well as the entrance with AC Schnitzer Japan. Of course, I had to check them out. As soon as I walk in, the first thing that amazed me was the car: BMW AC SChnitzer E36 M3 CLS II.

With a 2900cc engine, it can churn out 350 BHP and has a maximum torque of 355Nm. It recorded 8:16 at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 1997. What is equally impressive is of course its weight reduction through advanced material such as carbon Kevlar which is used in every corner of its cockpit and exterior.

Although, we are a dealer for AC SChnitzer, we have never seen this many different varieties of AC Schnitzer products in one place.

Outside, I witnessed 2 other high profile AC Schnitzer Concept cars, the ACS Profile and the ACS6 Falcon. The white and orange 2-tone was as distinct as the design of the ACS Z4. What really impressed me is the fact that I was looking that the ACS concept car, not in a show but on a parking lot in Tokyo.

After the tour of the Studie Tokyo, I wanted to live there. It was BMW heaven and I understood why so many seek the expertise and leave their prized BMW at the hands of Studie. The service and products that Studie provides is top notch in every sense.

WSTO is humbled and in many ways feel proud to share a partnership with Studie, to share tuning ideas and philosophies for BMW owners in the USA.

I had to leave Studie Tokyo and head out to the Heart and Soul of Studie in Yokohama. With anticipation building up and not knowing what to expect or even comprehend how it can be any better than this, I bid farewell to the crew at Studie Tokyo.

Advan RZ-DF Forged Wheels [New Release]

With the news of release of these fantastic looking wheels for 2010 from Advan, we have waited patiently for these to be available for order in the US.
WSTO had really good feedback and a lot of people have asked for pricing and availability on the new RZ-DF. (See product release thread). Here they are.

The Advan Racing RZ-DF was released with new geneartion BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes in mind.
They are fully forged wheels (one of the first forged release for the Advan line). They are constructed using the 8000ton forging process.

Volk TE37 Super Lap New Release

We thought Volk was done making TE37 for the BMW, but they had one last trick up their sleeves.

They have taken the all time favorite wheel; TE37 and reincarnated it with a devilish twist. Volk reduced the weight and released an 18" fitment for the M3, (with 19" to follow soon) and priced it below $3000/set.

What we have so far.

Features:
The major feature on this wheel is the fact that they reduced weight while maintaining strength by using the latest mold form forging technology.

The cross section of the TE37 super lap is slightly different from the traditional TE37.

For example, Rays Engineering managed to reduced 400g (0.88lbs) of weight for the TE37SL compared to the regular TE37(which is already pretty light).

Also, the rim flagen and center part has a diamond cut finish with a black clear coat accentuating the visual aspects of the wheel.

Actually it is 5 hours to rise and shine and prep for Bimmerfest.
don't have much on the car to report to you all, except for the fact that our hold booth is not in LA and show is starting in 5 hours.

the new front lip that we did not put on the car because we wanted it to be perfect and be put on at the show is still somewhere en-route to LAX. Our whole booth, tent, tables and display stands as well as Bastuck exhaust that we are putting on display is no where to be seen.

Let me tell you it was just that kind of day. What can I say.....

Well, I am going to sleep on it and hopefully, we'll have a good show anyway.

2 Days to Bimmerfest!

2 Days to Bimmerfest.

Our flight into LAX leaves in approximately 5 hours from now (6:30am central time) and I have yet to pack. I am excited as well as nervous about making the trip out west to Bimmerfest. Sure, I have been to lots of car events, but not to the scale of bimmerfest, except for SEMA, which is more commercial than a celebration of Bimmers like Bimmerfest.

So, why am i up this late? Well, it is really to write up the last episode of our Journey to Bimmerfest. The only story left to tell is that of POWER. Not about accessories or the aesthetics, but about pure power.

Intake: aFe / Synapse Bov Kit / Macht Schnell Air Scoop

As you all know, we have had the aFe dual cone intake in our car for quite some time. The aFe has worked great for us. We haven't felt heat soak issues or any other potential issues with the intake. Sound is not too aggressive, which we like and the dry filter really is Easy to Clean! We also have the synapse Blow off valve to relieve some of the excess pressure in the charge pipe. Besides, the sound of that pressure release is menacing!

The intake gets a little bit of help from the Macht Schnell air scoops. the scoops were a breeze to install and the smooth surface without kinks seemed ideal for air flow into those BMW snorkels.

ECU Tuned by ESS Tuning

We have gone through 2 different ECU tunes and we were not happy. One was constantly limping and the other was just not smooth, although produced lots of power. Also, the Check Engine light issue without Cats was not an issue that could be taken care of by either of the previous systems.

This time, we got help from our newest Partner: ESS Tuning.
ESS was in town to help tune one of the IND's amazing supercharged cars. And AJ was nice enough to spend a little extra time to diagnose the car and tune it to Stage 3 Power level. ESS Tune is amazing. OEM level of stability and driveability. Smooth with release of abrupt power when you gas it. Transition is smooth and We are ecstatic about this one. (more to come on this later).

Now, the grand finale and the best thing about our new version of "Project 1", the EXHAUST. Before, I begin, I want to thank the following partners/friends/vendors.

Let me start by saying that we are actually honored to partner up with companies like Macht Schnell and Berk Technology. All the products are designed with function in mind and the quality of fit and finish could not be made any better. We have experience with exhaust components from all over the world and I can confidently say that Macht Schnell as well as Berk Technology will parallel all of them in quality.

We first took down our old and worn out, rattling R^2 down pipes. The DP was as hard to take out as it was to put on. I could not wait to get rid of those R^2 parts. On the other hand, the Macht Schnell DP went in without fuss.

In order to make this system a full system, we opted for the Berk Technology mid section. This is a resonated section without the secondary cats. Bends were smooth and fitting was a breeze.

We have always been a fan of the quad tip look on the 1er. Lucky for us, 3D Design has just finished developing a full bolt-on quad system that untilizes the valve technology like the stock exhaust to regulate back pressure.

Most Quad systems were built around the Euro spec cars without the huge chunky vapor canisters that we have in the US. Therefore, modifications were necessary. WSTO co-developed an exhaust with 3D design to suit the US market. The exhaust that we received is the first US prototype.

Before we could even break it in, we had to load the car on the truck to take a ride to Pasadena, CA. the sound is amazing and I am sure that power delivery will be spectacular.

Many have speculated and waited for concrete information on the BBS Forged Individual wheel program. The wait is now over and WSTO is proud to offer the BBS FI Wheels to our clients.

BBS FI wheels are born from the BBS Motorsports division in Germany.
This is a product of decades of leading the wheel industry in breakthroughs in manufacturing and engineering of wheels by BBS.
BBS has accumulated tons of knowledge both on and off the race tracks and have funneled this wealth of technology into the BBS FI: Forged Individual wheel program.

3 Days to Bimmerfest

Hi guys,

I am back to give you guys more updates on what we did on our Project 1. For this episode, I really have the honor of introducing another new product and offering from 3D Design.

3D Design Full Caron Fiber Hood with Vents and Aerocatch Hood Pin

When we visited Tokyo for earlier this year, 3D Design had built a prototype Carbon fiber hood for the BMW E82 135i. We fell in love with the product immediately. The quality of the carbon fiber construction was top notch as always and the hood was so light that we could hold the entire hood with one hand. Not a single strand of Carbon fiber was out of place and the dense 1x1 weave was a sight to behold. It was actually like looking at the roof on the E92 M3 or the E63 M6. Simply perfect!

The 2 best features of this exhaust are the vents and the Aerocatch hood pin. The vents are very different from the many vorsteiner vents that we have seen. The angle of the fins were more severe and really added an aggressive dimension to the hood. "Function over Form" was key on this design for 3D Design as they made the openings of the vents larger for better "venting" For many of you worried about water getting in, "Fear no more". the vents come with an undertray that collects water and debris from the outside so that they do not splatter all over your engine bay.

The other great feature is the Aerocatch hood pin. We took the traditional lock and latch out and used this "already attached" hood pin to secure the hood to the body of the car. It added another level of "Raciness" to the car. the aerocatch hides all the internal mechanism (which is silky smooth, by the way) and looks very clean and classy from the outside.

Combination of a severe drop and the Front lip gave about 3" of clearance from the ground. We had been daily driving this 1er with the 3D Design front lip for close to 2 years now and the original front lip had taken a beating. We hit a full block of ice (the size of a basketball) head on and hit multiple potholes and that damaged the lip. We had to put on a nice and shiny one for Bimmerfest and with the help of the guys at IND, we had one freshly painted for Bimmerfest.

Of course, we complimented the hood and front lip with other parts by 3D Design. The Carbon fiber rear diffuser and Rear trunk lip spoiler just tied everything together nicely, on the outside.

For interior, we already had the full aluminum pedal set and foot rest and floor mats by 3D Design.

We had been waiting for some extra bits in the form of a shift knob and e-brake handle, but they were not ready for delivery. These new accessories were to be release sometime in June. Oh well.... I guess we all have to wait for that one. Here are some pictures to who you what they look like.

Although, the shift knob and e-brake handle are not quite available yet, we will be sure to let you all know, the moment they are ready.

thanks for viewing and hope you are enjoying the updates. It is my hope that this will put the 1 series on the map at Bimmerfest. Show everyone that the 135i is not just a smaller Bimmer, but a truly unique piece of machinery with the potential to look and perform as well as some of the bigger BMW's out there.

4 Days to Bimmerfest

It is only 4 days to Bimmerfest and I can't wait to be there.
Nate@IND; thanks for all your help. You guys have really helped us a lot, not only on this project but throughout the years. I only hope that we had been an instrumental part your business as well.

Now, back to Project 1....

Today, I am going to share with you, some of the smaller parts that went into the car (literally smaller). The wheels, exhaust and aero drastically change the way the car looks to the naked eye. Some of the products I will share with you may lack similar effects but it really adds to the total bad-assness (made this word up) of the car!

Pivot 3-drive Flat Throttle Controller

The Pivot 3-Drive Flat Throttle Controller is the first of its kind and the only one in the market. There are a few different throttle controllers for the modern throttle by wire cars. Most of these systems only "boost" the throttle response of the car, much like the "Sport" setting on a lot of the BMW's with sport packages.

However, the Pivot 3-Drive Flat Throttle Controller has 12 different modes: 7 in the "sport" mode and 5 in the "Eco" mode. Settings in the sport mode really allows you to fine tune the amount of throttle response that you are happy with. The Eco mode allows you to lag or retard the throttle response. Why would you want to do that? Well, I have a couple of reasons: when i give me moded 135i to the Valet and when (god forbid) ever need to lend the car to some one else.

Installation is also really easy. Pivot has really created an innovative product by allowing this to be a plug and play solution with simple installation through the OBD port.

Pivot Hybrid Triple Gauge System

We have been supplying and selling the 3D Design Gauge pods for the BMW cars for quite some time. We also supply them with top of the line STACK Gauges. However, this set up is not an easy one. The oil pressure / Oil temperature / exhaust temperature as well the water temperature gauges need to be tapped into the respective sources to function and they are often expensive with labor for installation being not very "DIY" for the average Joe.

Again, Pivot just made this a non-issue with their triple gauge system for the BMW 135/335 cars. The gauges read boost / water temp / exhaust temp. Boost reading is done by "T" connection to the vacuum line on the diverter valve side and the temp gauges obtain accurate readins from connecting to the OBD ports. That is simple and fun. The only downside, if any is that they read in kPA and degree celsius, which I really like as it makes the car unique.

3D Design Gauge Pod

The quality of the construction of the 3D Design products are out of this world. This gauge pod fit perfectly and was flawless.

So, how do we tie in 2 components to 1 OBD Port? Well Pivot had a solution for that too. A simple plug in adapater that will allow you to run 2 Pivot OBD compliant products.

Bellof Sirius LED Ring for BMW

Bellof is a very well known Japanese bulb and lighting solutions company. They are very well known for making high quality HID solutions as well as LED bulbs for automotive applications.

Amongst the many brands of Angel Eye upgrade bulbs, we have decided to go with the Bellof Sirius LED Rings. Bellof has 2 distintive features: the bulb brightness remains steady even through ignition process, proprietary circuitry to stabilize current into the bulb and most importantly features 4 LED bulbs to increase the brightness while positioning them strategically, so that they travel through the entire figure 8 of the Angel eyes.

Again, the connection and installation was top notch and everything fit easily and quickly.

ARC Power Brace

It was also time to stiffen the car a little bit, with the power that is going in. I had always wanted to put a nice shiny strut bar in the car. Give the car a little bit of a flashy look to the engine bay while stiffening up the car a tad bit. Of course, we decided to source only the best for this job. We opted for ARC Power Brace to handle this task.

The ARC Power Brace was just an amazing piece of piece. It was well made, precision crafted from Aluminum and steel. the cross bar is aluminum while the mounting points were made of steel.

ARC also makes a really nice brace for the rear struts but we did not want to go overboard, this time. They also have these braces in a combination of Aluminum and carbon fiber, which we didn't opt for as we had no other carbon fiber pieces on our car.

CPM Lower Reinforcement.

I was not sure what to make of this product at first. But, when our friends in Japan told us that this is the hottest item for BMW in the market right now, we had to try it.

What does it do?

It goes in place of your lower brace (not replacing it) but under the panel to hold the car together. It is supposed to really add rigidity to the car. I don't know if it did, but it sure was a nice piece and we had to put it on.

5 Days to Bimmerfest

I think that the 1st post has been enough to get your attention.
If not, here is a little something for the first update/unveiling.

As WheelSTO, we put high priority and interest in our "shoes". You have all seen the 3pc Klassen, the blacked out Stock wheels as well as the Dark Gun metal Advan RZ that we had on our car. Each and everyone of these wheels are unique and carry a distintive look and feel, that cannot be replicated by any other wheels.

The klassen had a nice deep dish on a car that everyone was saying deep was impossible with the high offset. the curvy spokes of the Klassen took care of that. We loved those smoked lips that we had on our Klassen wheels. The next set was the OEM wheels with a dark twist with custom powdercoat (20% gloss / 80% flat Black). This set showed that even with stock wheels, a nice set of spacers (Macht Schnell 18+10 combo) can give a whole new dimension to the car.

We really thought that the 1er could not look any better than it did, when it was wearing one of the first sets of Advan RZ Dark gun metal. It looked menacing and you could really tell that this wheel was serious performance. It was light and it had curvy spokes that screamed "speed".

So, how can we improve and change the look and feel of our Project 1, yet again? The only way was to go "Forged". As you will see throughout this journal, performance was everything, this time around. we wanted to shed weight without removing seats and the carpet . The choice was obvious: Volk Racing's VR. G2.

Thanks to our good friends at Mackin Industries (US supplier of Volk and Yokohama wheels), we sourced a set of Formula Silver 18" VR G2. Everything was in sync and perfect on this set. The VR G2 would have take a couple of months at least for us to source. Not only were we lucky that they had a set in stock, they had the exact color that we wanted in stock; Formula Silver. This was no ordinary silver. It is dark enough to give a mystique look while with just the right amount of light, it would shine to a brilliant metallic hue. The 18" sizing meant a lighter weight wheel and a great choice for tires.

Speaking of tires, we had tried many different kinds, from the michelins to the hankooks, Toyo's and the much loved Advan Neova AD08. This time, we wanted to try 1 unique brand from Scandinavia; Vredesteins (don't ask me how to pronounce this one ). We had heard and seen many good reviews on the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. It was time to try out those famous treads, designed by Giugiaro.

We put the tires on and did what all good wheel and tire combinations deserve; a Hunter Road Force Balance. After making sure that all 4 are round (shape and weight), we lift the car and put on those new kicks.

But, the old plain chipped lug nuts were not going to do, this time.
With new shoes, you need new laces and we decided to tie everything together nicely with a set of the 75mm Bullet nose studs from Macht Schnell and lock the wheel in place with a set of Black Muteki SR48 lug nuts.

If you haven't already noticed, we are sourcing a lot of parts from Japan, this time, and for good reason too. I believe that tuning is truly global, right now. We pride ourselves in opening our minds and eyes to what fellow enthusiasts from across the world are doing. We also try and make sure that we get a good amount of inspiration from all kinds of cars, domestic, JDM, Euro as well as KDM. I truly believe that the key to integrating all these components correctly is to use Quality products. Products that will not fail and will last the test of time.

I can't show other parts of the car (leave that for the next few days) and I really wish I could. So, here is the wheels on the car....

Project 1 | The Journey To Bimmerfest

Many of you may already be familiar with the work that we have done in the past to our demo car, (very fittingly called) Project 1. We started out with a simple wheel swap, front lip, rear trunk lip spoiler. Since then, we have gone through 3 sets of wheels, 3 different exhaust configurations, and tried many of the products that we offer for the 1 series, such as intakes, springs and even tunes and little accessories.

We had been debating for a long time, if we should make the trip out west to Bimmerfest. For many of you, it is a simple drive and a weekend event. However, for us it was big commitment. We really wanted to show our 1er and make our virgin trip/showing at Bimmerfest. Kind of get a stamp of approval as a BMW shop/haven.

However, there were many hurdles to jump over. Distance was one of them. Google showed an exact distance of 2,126 miles with approximately 1 day and 10hours of pure driving (as if that was possible). Then there is the fact that we have to close shop for a week to drive there and back. Where are we going to stay/logde and what did we need to do to set up a booth? What products shall we bring to show and can we show side by side with the veterans of Bimmerfest? All too many questions and no clear answers.

The only way to find out was to "Just Do It". So, we plunged and committed, of course, all too late and everything was and still is last minute. But, with the help and support from many other vendors, manufacturers and friends, we were able to set things up. We owe each and everyone of them a BIG "Thank You" and more for making this possible. I will list and showcase each and everyone of them, throughout this article.

We carefully selected new mods for the car. Many of you may be wondering what we have in store and many of you may think, we have seen'em all. Believe me, they are going to be new to most of you and some of these parts are going to be the first of its kind in the USA (I promise). Throughout this article/journal, we will showcase the different products as well as the different manufacturers/vendors that make them.

We will also showcase all the products daily, until the unveiling of the car at Bimmerfest (sort of a teaser! ) So, stay tuned and for those of you fortunate enough to make it out to Bimmerfest 2010; see you there!

WSTO Subtle and Classy

This 335xi started out stock when the owner took possession, but he knew it wouldn't stay that way for long. Through the use of a few subtle mods a nice city cruiser was created. First on the list was a drop, thanks to KW V3 coilovers. The coilovers not only allowed him to get his ride height exactly where he wanted, but he was also no able to fine tune is handling and ride quality. KW V3 coilovers allow for adjustment of rebound and compression.

Of course in order to really set a car off from the crowd a proper set of wheels had to be chosen. BBS has a long standing reputation for classic styling and great quality. A set of BBS LM-R were chosen, in sizes 19x8.5 +32 and an aggressive 19x9.5 +25. These were paired up with 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 Good Year Eagle F1 tires.

The finishing touches are thanks to a Vorsteiner boot lid and BMW M-Aero front lip.

Japan Tuner Spotlight: BOND

WSTO visits Bond Shop Japan!

One of our missions during our visit to Japan and the Tokyo Auto Salon was to experience for ourselves the difference between US and Japanese tuning shops, and the car culture in general. Our visits to Dort, Bond Shop, and Studie all reveal just how unique car culture in Japan is.

Seeing Bond Shop’s enormous facility is very humbling, not only because of the sheer size of the place, or the incredibly impressive projects contained within the walls, but also because you soon come to the realization that the already incredible Bond Shop is only a small component of the European car tuning powerhouse called Lager Corporation- a company responsible for importing and distributing key brands for European cars like ART, Tech Art, G Power, ABT, and Arden. The level of organization and financial backing available here is truly rare in the BMW aftermarket, especially in the US, and to me represents a real achievement.

Bond Shop Urawa is split into two buildings. The major houses cars, a bay area and the main show room. The second building is the Bond performance studio, which is the main facility for sound, interior and electronic work.

The signs on the wall of the main building, list some of Bond’s key partners- Continental Tire, Mansory, ABT, G Power, Tech Art, and ART. Brands which carry a lot of weight in the tuning world and to have all of them under one roof is remarkable.

On the lower level is the bay area where cars can pull in for quick parts installs, service and maintenance. Right in the front of the bay area was this beast- a G Power supercharged M3 with new Awksher wheels and front lip spoiler. Sales and Marketing manager Naoki Fukasaki chose this car to drive me to Lager’s distribution warehouse, which was an adventure in itself. The car is absolutely terrifying! Power delivery is instant and brutal. (more detailed coverage on this beast to come soon).

Bond Shop’s show room has an impressive stock of wheels from G Power, Hyper Forged, Neez, and even Alpina, along with cars featuring their various product lines.

A Tech Art Porsche is a unique car even when seen on the street, so seeing this one on a showroom floor, “in stock” and ready for purchase was a truly impressive sight!

And the list keeps going, on and on. I felt like a kid in a candy store, surrounded by all the toys that only a dream could provide. It was no dream.

Cars enter the beautiful showroom through these large doors, and are then open to offers from customers. Here prospective clients can sit down with one of Bond Shop’s technical consultants and design the car of their dreams. And many clients have done so, here. Even celebrities and famous sportsmen, like Ishikawa.

Bond is not all about show either. They participate in many well known racing circuits in Japan and they have the plaques to prove it too!  I also found out that most of the guys that work at Bond are also avid track and weekend racers. (I felt like a poser…)

Bond Shop is also home to some of Japan’s own great BMW tuning companies, like 3D Design, Rays, Yokohama, Varis, Wald and many more. Here is a complete 3D Design mini, with the full line of parts offered by the extremely high-end parts manufacturer.

The second level contains a massive storage facility for Bond Shop’s major projects- I feel like having your car stored on this upper level is truly an honor as it makes you one of Bond Shop’s key clients.

The Bond Shop’s 2nd floor houses some truly incredible cars, from the Lamborghini Gallardo in the front row to a myriad of Mercedes and BMW cars, and even a Nissan GTR, fully wrapped in WALD components. All of these cars will receive the full Bond treatment with a full line of engine modifications and exterior enhancements to make the car more exciting than its factory specification.

This is the raging bull livery on a full IMSA wide body Gallardo with centerlock wheels. Right across from it was the Novitec Rosso F430 in WHITE! (not very common).

One of Bond Shop’s primary functions is to build turnkey modified cars in order to resell them in local and overseas markets. The shop’s top floor warehouse holds all of these cars, delivered in a brand new state from the factory, ready to be built into more fearsome machines and sold to their new owners.

With the backing of the Lager Corporation, Bond Shop is able to offer a huge selection of rare, hard to find wheels, body kits and tuning products, including options only available to the Japanese and European market. This connection is extremely exciting for WSTO in particular, as it allows our staff to offer our own clientele even the rarest products.

Leaving Bond Shop, I was treated to a ride to Lager’s enormous parts warehouse in Bond Shop’s own E92 M3 project car. The car’s G Power supercharger kit made for a truly hair-raising experience! A beast that is truly terrifying.

VRS Aero for BMW E92 M3

I have been a big fan of VRS aero for a long time. They have been making quality carbon fiber and FRP products for all the highly sought after Japanese machines like the GTR, EVO and STI under the VARIS name.

With focus on lightweight, and stregnth with full functionality, they stir up full down force yielding creations that end up on race cars.

One such creation that we all love here is the StudieGlad R@cing Z4. Varis laid the front hood, rear diffuser and Wing for this Super GT, GT300 Class pure race machine.

They have taken this healthy dose of creativity to the new M3.
