My Favorite Wheels

I started working with WheelSto a couple months ago due to my love for wheels. Wheels can make or break a cars style and performance. In my opinion, a wheel is the single most important mod you can do to a performance oriented street car. A street car's general goal has 3 main purposes, look good, perform better than oem, and get to the location as fast and fun as possible. A set of quality wheels can accomplish all of these goals.

A lightweight wheel will increase steering response, decrease overall weight of the vehicle, increase acceleration and breaking performance, as well as allow the suspension to do its job by decreasing unsprung weight. BUT wheel weight can not be sacrificed for wheel strength. Especially on a street car it is very important to have a strong wheel that can withstand the extreme temperature changes, pot holes and bumps we see everyday. The best way to do this is with a forged wheel. The forging process is the best process to manufacture a wheel, and due to the added strength, more material can be taken out from the wheel to save weight. A common misconception is a cast wheel is of inferior quality. As a general rule of thumb, this is true. But only because the casting process is basic and cheap, which creates wheel companies that manufacture cheap wheels using a cheap casting process, cheap materials, and little to no heat treatment. Company's like Advan and Work use high quality aluminum, expensive computer controlled casting processes, and post heat treatment operations. This creates a wheel with very similar material characteristics of other forged options. Likewise, if a forging company uses cheap unpure aluminum, the forged wheel could be just as weak as a cheap cast wheel.

Enough with tech. Here are some of my favorite wheels that blend style with performance and strength.

Alloy Technic Mesh (forged) - I'm generally not a fan of mesh style wheels, but with a 20x10.5 weighing only 21 lbs and a concave face that doubles as a satellite dish...I love them!

Advan RS (cast) - Basic design, concave shape, and light. These are a perfect example of high quality cast wheels.

Advan RS-D (cast) - Very similar to the RS but now with deep dish flavor!

Advan TC2 (cast)- Hollow spokes combined with high quality casting makes for a very light wheel. 18x9.5 is only ~18lbs!

Enkei RPF1 (cast/forged) - These wheels are very popular, but for good reason. They come in great sizes, are CHEAP CHEAP, and...you guessed it, light and strong. I personally run these on the track and street and have smashed them against so many curbs and berms and they keep on going!

Wedsport SA-70 (cast)- High quality casting, great design, and good sizing available. 18x9 is about 18 lbs

Volk TE37 MAG (forged)- What wheel discussion wouldn't be complete without the TE37. But they made a limited edition Forged Magnesium version that is incredible. 18x10 weighs in at 17.7 lbs!
